Product Details

Today we are happy to offer for sale a wonderful vintage over-sized International Silver Paul Revere sterling bowl! The International Silver Company (also known as the ISC) was formed in Meriden, Connecticut in 1898 as a corporation banding together many existing silver companies in the immediate area and beyond. The company existed until 1983. This vintage sterling silver bowl is a reproduction of the iconic Paul Revere "Sons of Liberty" bowl which honored ninety-two members of the Massachusetts House of Representatives who refused to rescind a letter sent throughout the colonies protesting the Townshend Acts (1767), which taxed tea, paper, glass, and other commodities imported from England. This act of civil disobedience by the "Glorious Ninety-Two" was a major step leading to the American Revolution. The bowl was commissioned by fifteen members of the Sons of Liberty, a secret, revolutionary organization to which Paul Revere belonged. Paul Revere (1734-1818) was an American silversmith, engraver, early industrialist, and Patriot in the American Revolution. He is best known for his midnight ride to alert the colonial militia in April 1775 to the approach of British forces before the battles of Lexington and Concord, as dramatized in Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's poem, "Paul Revere's Ride" (1861). This heavy and large bowl, Paul Revere reproduction pattern D262, is finely crafted of solid and marked sterling silver. The bowl can be used for fruits, punch, or as a classic and gracious decorative object! Bowl presents well and is in very good vintage condition, with very minor wear/scuffing, tarnishing and patina commensurate with age and light use.  Add classic American elegance and style to any fine sterling silver collection with this iconic bowl...Fresh to the market
